Awkwafina was an American performer and actress. She started by releasing hilarious, intelligently composed rap songs that addressed questions of racial identity as well as sexual orientation. Then she expanded her audience to Hollywood. Nora Lum was born to Chinese Koreans living in Forest Hills Queens. Her first exposure to music was through the instrument of trumpet. She also received Jazz and classical training before when she began to explore hip-hop as a teenager. While in college, she concentrated on her studies and majored both in women's study as well as journalism. In a short period of time in Beijing, Mandarin language classes were also available. However, it wasn't until she graduated that she shifted her focus on music. The year 2012 saw My Vag (as a retort to Mickey Avalon's My Dick) became an internet sensation and featured in her debut album Yellow Ranger. With musician and author on her resume she determined to pursue acting in a third project. She has appeared in films such as Neighbors 2, Storks as well as Bad Rap. In 2018, she scored major roles in a variety of high-profile films like Dude Ocean's 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. It was in June that she released her first film In Fina We Trust.
